I think that something world is missing is a candid picture of what being a black woman in the world means, with all its bitterness and its triumphs. So I think I will dedicate this Beauty and the Beast Section to filling that much needed niche. What is beauty really? And what does that mean for me and women like me? This is my attempt at discovering just that; the good the bad and yes even the ugly.

I am also a flagrant product junkie; so the occasional review may not be completely out of the ordinary

Okay! So where am I now with my natural hair journey? I've officially stopped transitioning! I am rocking a solid APL (Arm pit length) afro that has the tendency to shrink to a mini fro (4B + texture does that you know). My regimen is as follows!
Saturday
Shikakai paste mixed with Shikakai Oil, Brahmi Amla Oil, Jamaican Black Castor Oil and water as shampoo
Brahmi paste mixed with water and the same oils for deep condition
Aubrey Honeysuckle Rose Moisturizing Conditioner for co-washing
Giovanni Pure Organic Tech direct leave in conditioner
Kinky Curly Curly Custard
Monday: Shikakai, Olive, Brahmi Amla and Jamaican Black Castor Oil mix in scalp
Stretch out my wash n' Go with hair-ties and seal the ends with JBCO (Jamaican Black Castor Oil)
Wednesday
Shikakai Oil from root to tip
Seal with JBCO
Friday
Brahmi Amla Oil from root to tip
Seal with JBCO
This regimen is the result of a lot of research and effort on my part. I've found the perfect all natural products for me, I'm going to withhold judgement until I've rocked this for at least a month or two! So that's it! I'll post pictures eventually!
Dear Hair,
Moisture they say--moisture is needed for you to straighten with any success. But how much? And why isn't it working in you? I deep condition every time I bathe you, even going as far to mix my own conditioner--why won't you straighten like I know you can? I don't ask for much-only that you be healthy my dear. What am I missing?
In all seriousness I have mixed a lovely new conditioner. It's got coconut milk, honey, Brahmi and Shikakai hesh powders and oils, olive oil, JBCO, shea butter, lavender oil and tea tree oil. Although it's all natural I severely wish it were thicker, so I may have to add the whole batch to a thick conditioner base--which ruins the whole point anyway I guess.
I also have a shiny new FHI Platform; I picked it after a lot of research. I can't tell if it works on my 4A/B/C hair because my hair is not staying straight and I think that has a lot more to do with what I'm doing with my hair, not the flat iron itself.
I feel pressed to figure out my straightening issues soon though. Once I'm in Cairo I'll need to have steady styling method so I need to figure out how to make my hair cooperate. Next week i'll deep condition overnight and then roller set to air dry. I'll let you know how that goes!
